Research Experience

The Nature Conservancy of Washington
Estuary Field Technician: Assisted with biological monitoring, assessment, and stewardship of the Port Susan Bay Preserve in Snohomish County and the Cowichan and Campbell River estuaries in British Columbia. Mapped and monitored wetland vegetation, large woody debris and channels using GPS. Involved with research controlling the invasive weed Spartina alterniflora. July - September 2005

Washington Native Plant Society, Seattle
Native Plant Steward: Coordinated ~300 other Native Plant Stewards, through e-mail, phone calls, and monthly meetings, and also by updating “Get Involved”, a web listing of volunteer events. Was part of working group to upgrade WNPS educational exhibit. Assisted with workshops and exhibits on the value of using native plants in the garden. Developed a monitoring and assessment protocol for the urban forest restoration projects sponsored by other Native Plant Stewards in King and Snohomish County. April 2005 - June 2006

Starflower Foundation, Seattle
Native Plant Restoration Field Intern: Monitored and maintained restored landscapes in several West Seattle city parks by identifying and removing invasive non-native plant species. Created field maps using Adobe Photoshop. Assisted in updating the foundation's Herbarium database. July 2004 - December 2004
