Sawdust Lake

The charcoal records from Sawdust Lake are dominated by low-influx, low-frequency charcoal signature types with periods of larger peaks before 700 cal yr BP. At Sawdust Lake, charcoal signatures changed at approximately 1000 cal yr BP with an average fire return interval of 86 - 88 years. Background CHAR values were low in the cores from Sawdust Lake.  The vegetation from 1850 AD was characterized as red pine - birch forest.
