Camp Two Lake
The average fire return interval for Camp Two is 80 - 96 years, while high-frequency charcoal records occurred before 780 cal yr BP. There is a moderately high charcoal influx and peak frequencies at Camp Two Lake with high values in background charcoal. At Camp Two charcoal signatures changed at approximately 1000 cal yr BP. Although fewer charcoal records extend to before 1500 cal yr BP, there are roughly contemporaneous changes in charcoal signature types at Camp Two at approximately 1600 cal yr BP.
Background charcoal is influenced by regional charcoal production, which is determined by factors such as the type of vegetation, fuel loads, and fire size and intensity. Charcoal influx is also assumed to be influenced by processes that affect transport and deposition of charcoal in a lake.
