Note: Discovered on the banks of the River Ayr sometome before 1853, and introduced by Scottish nurseryman Thomas Lang. It is a specimen tree with compact habit. Each spring, the weeping branches are covered by silvery catkins. Like other willows , it can be planted in wetter soils. Monitor plant for galls, rust, blights, leaf spots, powdery mildew, scale, borers and caterpillars. Prefers sunny to partly shady, well-drained, sandy, ordinary garden soil.
