Note: This majestic plant is suitable as a shade tree in parks or large lawn areas. It takes over 30 years for the tree to bear a first crop of acorns. Bur Oak is the "State Tree" of Illinois. Monitor plant for chestnut blight, oak wilt, anthracnose, shoestring root rot, oak leaf blister, canker, leaf spots, powdery mildew, leaf miner, scale, galls, borers, caterpillars, nut weevils, oak skeletonizer, gypsy moths and oak lace bugs. Prefers sunny, moderately dry, well-drained, ordinary garden soil.
