Note: This plant has ornamental foliage and fruits, and is suitable for shrub borders or as a specimen in shady areas. The bluish-green leaves are spiny and coarse and resemble Holly's leaves. The roots of Oregon Grape contains strong antimicrobial agents berberin and oxycanthin which is used to treat a variety of skin disorders. Prefers partly shady, fairly dry, well-drained, ordinary garden soil.
