Note: This low-maintenance dioecious plant has showy red berries only on female plant. Winterberry has inconspicuous flowers and is suitable for accents, foundations, borders or for fruit displays in Fall and Winter. Because 'Jim Dandy' is an early-flowering dwarf male clone, this cultivar is being used as a pollinator for early-flowering female clones such as 'Afterglow', 'Aurantiaca' and 'Red Sprite'. Winterberry is susceptible to leaf spot, powdery mildew, and chlorosis in alkaline soils. Prefers sunny to partly shady, moist, well-drained, acidic, organic-rich soil.
