Note: This plant is suitable for meadows, prairies, and border fronts. Both the flowers and the fruiting heads are showy. Boiled Prairie Smoke roots have been used medicinally by American Indians to treat sore throats and wounds. Monitor plant for root rot, especially in poorly-drained soils. Prefers sunny to partly shady, moist, well-drained, ordinary garden soil.
