Note: This clump-forming perennial is suitable for cut flower gardens, border fronts, cottage gardens, mass plantings, near ponds or streams, woodland gardens, and edging. Leaves may dieback under hot and dry conditions. Aside from A. Japonica, there are other two Astilbe hybrids in our garden. The first one is 'Rock & Roll', a mid-season bloomer that grows to 24 inches tall with a reddish stem, dark foliage and white flowers. The second one is 'Rhythm & Blues', which grows to 28 inches tall with clear pink flowers and dark green foliage. Prefers partly shady to shady, moist, well-drained , organic rich soil.
