Note: This plant has an attractive spathe (white-green-purple colored), foliage, and berry. It is suitable for woodland gardens and marshy locations. Roots are poisonous (containing calcium oxalate). This plant does not do well in clay soil, and is difficult to transplant. Prefers partly shady to shady, moist, well-drained, organic-rich (slightly acidic) soil.
