Note: This low-maintenance plant has smooth purple, or purple-blotched, stems. American Indians ate young leaf stalks and stems as a cooked vegetable. Plant is suitable for herb gardens and near ponds and streams. Prefers sunny to partly shady, moist, well-drained, organic-rich soil.
