Note: This deciduous shrub is suitable for shrub borders, naturalized areas, woodland gardens or next to ponds and streams. In the Spring, showy flowers appear before the leaves emerge. Fruits resemble bluberries and after they mature (midsummer) can be used in pies, jam and jellies. This plant has an attractive red and yellow fall foilage. Monitoring for scale, leaf miner, borers, powdery mildew, leaf spot, rust and fire blight is needed. Prefers sunny to partly shady, moist, well-drained, ordinary garden soil.
