Defining Features: Some botanists place Galanthus in Asparagaceae family and Narcissus in Alliaceae family.

Defining Morphology: Floral Features: Flowers are usually showy, bisexual, actinomorphic (rarely zygomorphic) and each associated with a filiform bracts. Inflorescences are determinate, solitary flower or flowers borne in helicoid cymes, racemes, spikes or umbels. Ovaries are inferior with axile placentation. Fruit and Seed Features: Monocotyledon. Fruit a berry or most frequently a capsule. Vegetative Features: Habit as perennial herbs from bulbs. Leaves alternate, simple and entire with sheathing at base. Venation is usually parallel, but often net-like in forest-dwelling groups. Stipules are lacking.

Distribution: Temperate to tropical regions.

Economic Use: As cultivated garden and indoor ornamentals.
