Defining Morphology: Floral
Features: Flowers are usually showy, bisexual, actinomorphic (rarely zygomorphic)
and each associated with a filiform bracts. Inflorescences are determinate,
solitary flower or flowers borne in helicoid cymes, racemes, spikes or
umbels. Ovaries are inferior with axile placentation. Fruit and Seed Features:
Monocotyledon. Fruit a berry or most frequently a capsule. Vegetative Features:
Habit as perennial herbs from bulbs. Leaves alternate, simple and entire
with sheathing at base. Venation is usually parallel, but often net-like
