Cyanobacteria (Chloroxybacteria)

The atmosphere-altering, carbonate-generating, toxin-producing cyanobacteria
introduced in previous chapters are here given more attention. The focus is
on cyanobacterial fossils, relationships, reproduction, nitrogen-fixation,
extreme habitat ecology, and diversity (additional ecological aspects are
covered in Chapters 22 and 23). Some aspects of photosynthetic biochemistry
applicable to all algal groups is also presented here. Students of
microbiology, extreme environments ecology, and astrobiology will find this
material interesting.
