*more specific location information is undisclosed because of endangered/protected status.

Habitat:  Growing at the north end of a series of dry, open "barrens" on sandy soil. The sites are mostly open with some large pines and are being invaded by bracken fern and Populus tremuloides and other trees. This particular site is bordered on the north by a regrowth Populus tremuloides woods, and is just N of a small sandy road. Vaccinium caespitosum is growing with typical dry barens species including V. angustifolium, blackberries, Comptonia peregina, Solidago juncea, Monarda fistulosa, Salix humilis, and others. The general area of the V caespitosum is relatively low, however, and Scirpus cyperinus is growing within a few feet. The "patchy" V. Caespitosum population is roughly "L" shaped extending about 100ft E/W and about 25ft wide, with a lobe extending north of the west end about 30ft.
