Habitat:  Fen-occupied pocket or "room" surrounded by invading shrubs and cat-tails, in larger Carex stricta (dominant)-Calamagrostis canadensis (subdominant) sedge meadow matrix; Typha Xglauca (aspect dominant), with Carex stricta, Cornus stolonifera, Eupatoriastrum maculatum, Lysimachia quadriflora, Lycopus americanus, Muhlenbergia glomerata, Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Selaginella eclipes, and Solidago ohioensis. Atop ant-colony-occupied, Carex stricta tussocks; assoc.: Carex sterilis.
