Habitat:  Atop 0.6 m high bank of small stream. Moist sandy loam. Under high shade of mature northern hemlock-hardwood forest. Fairly sparse vegetation includes Dryopteris intermedia, Rubus parviflora, Ranunculus abortivus, Trientalis borealis, Circaea alpina, Anemone quinquefolia, Carex leptonervia, Maianthemum canadense, and Acer rubrum, A. spicatum, and Betula alleghaniensis seedlings.
