Habitat:  At the far end of a small field on a ridge; soil of medium depth, clay loam. Assoc.: Ambrosia, Lycopus, various Helianthus, Solidago, and Symphyotrichum spp., along with Robinia pseudoacacia, Rubus, Salix humilis, and other woody spp.
 
Text:  One patch of about 8 stems, these taller (5--6 ft.) and maturing many weeks earlier than other A. purpurascens stands on the property; fruits wart free and downy. Site burned 3 of the last 6 years. Photos taken at various times in 2009 by K. J. Symon. [Sheet 2 of 2]
