Habitat:  Growing at the edge of a black ash swamp in partial shade of black ash. It occurs on hummocks of Carex bromoides in pools of water with a little flowage (not stagnant) where the swamp narrows as it flows S. With Impatiens capensis, Laportea canadensis, Osmunda regalis, Rubus pubescens, Glyceria striata, Caltha palustris, Carex stipata and Carex leptalea.
 
Text:  Rare but a cluster of several plants occur every few meters over a stretch of 20 to 30m (before opens out into marshy/alder swamp to south). Relatively robust specimen.
