Habitat:  Acid boggy flat, actually a peaty-sandy "borrow pit". Not a distinct community, but an association of intermingled plants of boggy places. Ground cover mostly sedges (Carex stricta-dominant, C. echinata, C. scoparia, Eriophorum virginicum) with sparse. small trees (Larix laricina) and saplings (Alnus rugosa, Betula papyrifera); assoc.: Campanula aparinoides v. grandiflora, Castilleja coccinea, Drosera rotundifolia, Hypericum kalmianum, Lysimachia terrestris, Oenothera perennis, Pedicularis canadensis,
 
Text:  Osmunda regalis v. spectabilis, Potentilla simplex, Rubus hispidus, Thelypteris palustris v. pubescens, Viola sagittata. Soil: sandy subsoil covered by a thin layer of peaty material (the original topsoil, Dunning Silt Loam, had long since been removed).
