Habitat:  Fine "relict" stand of Tsuga canadensis & Betula alleghaniensis with Acer saccharum & Tilia americana. Steep, rocky N-facing slopes of Cambrian sandstone bluff w/ low cliffs, ledges, & very steep slanting ss. walls. Shallow mineral soil w. pH-5.2. Site. described in Trans. Wis. Acad. 62: 250. 1974. Additional information: a) Drier upper slopes: Taxus canadensis, Actea rubra, Hepatica acutiloba, Mitella diphylla, Circaea lutetiana canadensis, & Solidago flexicaulis. B) Moister middle and lower slopes:
