Habitat:  sugar maple - basswood forest (rich ATM habitat type), with a few white spruce in the understory. Other associates included Aralia nudicaulis, Streptopus roseus, Botrychium virginianum, B. matricariaefolium, Hepatica acutiloba, Maianthemum canadense,. Oryzopsis asperifolia, Uvularia grandiflora, Sanguinaria canadense and Aralia racemosa. Generally occurring under basswood. Site is on the slope of an ice-walled-lake plain.
