Habitat:  In rich soil of understory with Viola cf. canadensis, Aster macrophyllus, Osmorhiza claytoni, Mitchella repens, Mitella diphylla (with which it is easily confused), Botrychium virginianum, Solidago flexicaulis, Trillium grandiflorum, Actaea pachypoda,. (A. alba), Viburnum acerifolium, under canopy of Betula papyrifera (to10" DBH), and younger Acer saccharum and Populus grandidentata.
 
Text:  BER. At least 200 individuals surrounding a natural depression in woods, ca. 80 ft from a cultivated field. Note stolons! Only dry, prostrate fruiting stalks were available. Historical site for this sp.; prev. collected here by Seymour in 1949.
