Habitat:  At one end of narrow, seasonally flooded channel, apparently remnant beaver pond. Hydrologically disturbed Fraxinus nigra swamp. Dark, mucky, organic soil. About 50% shade. Overstory dominated by F. nigra, with scattered Betula papyrifera and Larix larcina also. Understory of scattered Alnus rugosa, Prunus virginiana, and sapling Abies balsamea. Ground layer a diverse mix of Carex rosea, C. stripata, Glyceria striata, Polygonum sagittatum, Impatiens capensis, Clematis virginiana, and others.
 
Text:  Leaves common within a 170 sq. m area. About 4 flower stalks scattered throughout patch as of May 11, but apparently none were pollinated.
